It’s the little things.
An older couple came to RIFA requesting assistance. They met with Brianna, our social worker, to update their information so she could get a better understanding of the need that brought them to RIFA. This allowed her to hear more about what was going on in their lives, so that she could offer additional resources if it would be helpful for them.
During their conversation with Brianna, the couple told her they were both pretty low-income, one relying on his Social Security check and the other on her disability check. They did not receive any SNAP benefits or any other source of income to cover the rising costs of rent and utilities.
Then the couple mentioned something that really caught Brianna’s attention: the growing cost of washing their clothes at the laundromat. Even if a single load of laundry only costs $5, that expense adds up fast for someone who is already struggling.
Brianna immediately told them that RIFA offers free laundry services and set up an appointment for them to come wash their clothes. They were both thrilled, going on and on about how much money this would save them. On their way out, our staff provided them with clothing and much-needed groceries. They were so grateful, and they left with huge smiles on their faces.

You have the capacity to make a difference right here in Jackson. Here’s how you can be part of stories like this.
1. Pray. Many patrons come to us and ask for nothing more than prayer; it means the world to them, and it is the most powerful tool at our disposal.
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)
2. Donate directly. Whether your donation is $5 or $500, we see every single cent that comes in, and we’re so thankful.
3. Donate your time. Volunteers keep the RIFA world spinning! We’re always in need of individual and group volunteers.
