Each Friday throughout the school year, around 800 children in Jackson receive a Snack Backpack from RIFA. These bags of food contain enough nutritious, kid-friendly food items for 6 meals and 2 snacks. The Snack Backpacks will sustain the children on Saturday and Sunday, allowing them to be well-fed and better prepared for school on Monday.
According to the Tennessee Commission on Children & Youth, 27.7% of children in Madison County are food-insecure. In 2025 alone, RIFA distributed 200,368 meals to elementary school children through Snack Backpack and School Food Pantries.
As September is Hunger Action Month, RIFA utilizes the Bus Bank fundraiser to help fight childhood hunger. This is a great opportunity for churches, businesses, teams, and classes to get involved. We need your help to ensure we can continue to meet the needs of children in our community.
To participate, simply collect your spare change in one of our Bus Banks and encourage others to do the same. The banks will be collected at the end of September. All donations benefit Snack Backpack!
